What is self-directed education?
For our family developing a love of learning starts with embracing learning as a lifestyle not as a fixed scheduled. We trust our children to find the desire and motivation to learn when and what feels right to them. Learn the strategies we have used over the last 20+ years to raise successful happy life-long-learners.
In this workshop we will explore the adult's role in this process. Including a mix of open-ended games, spontaneous adventures, and planned lessons and activities.
Is self-directed education only for homeschoolers?
This workshop is for you whether you are currently homeschooling, desire to make the switch, or your child is enrolled in school.
In any of these settings it is possible to fully embrace self-directed learning. We often feel a lot of pressure from society, family, and friends to prove our kids are learning. Many of us were forced to do homework, take test, and learn subjects we were not interested in and this is our only vision of education. I am here to tell you there is another way. It's as simple as learning to trust the innate and natural curiosity of our children.
In this workshop we will explore how to create learning moments out of everyday experiences in and outside of school.
In this free 90 min webinar you will learn:
About self-directed learning strategies that help you to build closer relationships with your kids
How to create lessons and activities that support learning goals while respecting your child's unique learning style and interests
Fun games and easy strategies for engaging your child in learning
Self-Directed learning is NOT ABOUT:
- doing nothing and hoping your kid will learn something
- letting your kid do whatever they want
- demanding your child learn every subject
- having a rigid schedule you have to stick to every day
Self-Directed learning IS ABOUT:
- engaging your child in educational moments sparked by their interests and energy
- creating diverse learning opportunities that cover several core knowledge areas with one topic or interest
- being flexible throughout your days and weeks to flow with energy levels interests, and needs.
- HAVING FUN!!!

And it's always about teaching from experience...
I have been facilitating learning environments for kids for over 25 years including homeschooling my own 2 children here in the state of VT. My kids have both successfully graduated highschool following a self-directed model of education that included learning at home, local classes, mentorships, and at times public school settings. I would love to share my experiences and strategies with you.
